Wash ‘n’ Nosh

Located just off Manhattan’s West Side Highway, Underwest Donuts specializes in donut detailing from a rather unusual spot—a 70-year-old car wash. Unusual, and yet something about the combination of that swaying, sudsy noodle curtain and an old-fashioned cake donut just makes sense. Knowing the limited retail space in NYC, chef Scott Levine opened the tiny donut shop inside his father-in-law’s retro car wash to serve customers looking for a freshly fried sinker with their suds. Talk about thinking outside the pink pastry box.

Past the aisles of pine scented car fresheners and antifreeze, you’ll find one of Instagram’s favorite donuts in NYC. Every food loving New Yorker has made the trek to Underwest (with or without a car) to sing its praises—including The Today Show’s Hoda Kotb (which inevitably means they pair well with wine).
