The Official State Dish Registry Is Here, And Your Vote Decides

Created and curated by Goldbelly in partnership with America250

Every state has an official bird, an official flower, even an official song. But somehow, in 250 years, no one ever made it official for the food. Until now.

To celebrate America’s 250th birthday, Goldbelly has teamed up with America250 to launch The Official State Dish Registry — the first-ever national vote to crown the dish that truly represents each of the 50 states. From deep-dish pizza to gumbo, from the humble lobster roll to the mighty brisket, the foods that define where we’re from finally have a ballot of their own. And the deciding vote is yours.

How It Works

Cast your vote for the dish you believe deserves to represent your state for generations to come. Each state has its own shortlist of contenders, and every ballot you submit gets sealed into the National Food Registry — your own small mark on American food history.

How Each State’s Ballot Was Built

These weren’t chosen at random. Every contender on the ballot was pulled from the sources that actually shaped how each state eats — regional cookbooks, historical records, official state designations, and the dishes rooted deepest in local culture. The result is a shortlist for every state that reflects real culinary heritage, not just popularity.

Watch the Map Come to Life

As the votes roll in, a live national map shades each state by how many votes its leading dish has racked up — so you can watch the country’s tastes take shape in real time. There’s also a running national tally of the most-voted dishes, where early favorites are already pulling ahead.

When the Winners Are Announced

Voting closes on November 1, 2026, and the official state dishes — along with the finished national map — will be revealed later this fall. Once the results are in, they become part of the permanent National Food Registry, a lasting record of how America voted on the foods that define it.

Become a Part of American Food History

Official state birds, songs, and flowers have long reflected the culture, history, and pride of each state. Now the dishes that define them get their due — and you get a say in it. Whether you’re loyal to your hometown classic or ready to make the case for an underdog, your vote helps write the record for generations to come.
