Legend has it, Prince’s hot chicken was invented when a girlfriend of Thorton Prince (known around town as a womanizer) decided to dish out her revenge by serving him fried chicken loaded with the hottest peppers and spices she could find. To her surprise (and dismay), Thorton fell in love with it, perfecting the recipe and opening Prince’s Hot Chicken in 1945.
Today, Thorton’s great niece, Andre Prince Jeffries, continues to serve the legendary dish that has not only shaped Nashville’s culture, but remains the gold standard for hot chicken across the South.
