What is a PieCaken?

A PieCaken is an 8-inch, multi-layer dessert that combines pie and cake into one show-stopping treat. Created by pastry chef Zac Young in 2015, this decadent mash-up features three delicious layers stacked into a single, sliceable masterpiece.

PieCakens are available in a variety of seasonal and holiday flavors, including: Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fourth of July, Mother’s Day, Passover, St. Patrick’s Day, Valentine’s Day

Some specialty PieCakens are offered only for a limited time, favorites include the Red Hot Red Velvet Piecupen and The Pielogen.

Each PieCaken weighs an impressive six pounds and serves 8–12 people, making it the ultimate dessert centerpiece for any celebration.

What is Christmas PieCaken?

The Christmas PieCaken is a festive, multi-layered dessert featuring rich Chocolate Pecan Pie, creamy Eggnog Cheesecake, and moist Red Velvet Cake. Each layer is stacked together and finished with smooth Amaretto Buttercream, then topped with bright Cherry Pie Filling. Red and green holiday sprinkles add the perfect seasonal touch.

If you’re celebrating a different holiday, there’s also a special PieCaken for Passover. The PassCaken includes three delicious layers: matzo-crusted coconut macaroon pie, flourless chocolate cake, and a light raspberry mousse. It’s finished with a chocolate and sea salt matzo crumble for the perfect sweet-and-salty crunch.

History of the Christmas PieCaken

The PieCaken started out as a fun dessert to compete with turducken. The turducken is a trio of Thanksgiving meats that rival traditional turkey. Chef Zac Young was working at a restaurant in New York City that was set to serve turducken. Turducken is a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey.

He created a cake and pie dessert that features three desserts in one: pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and spice cake. The Original PieCaken is frosted with cinnamon buttercream and topped with apple pie filling. What was meant to be a limited offering turned into a social media frenzy and bakery business devoted to making one of the world’s most unique desserts.

The winter-themed Christmas PieCaken was created after the Thanksgiving-themed Original PieCaken.
